There are “Great Men” in history, but they’re notably rarer than pop-history tends to indicate The description of historical Great Men as mere examples of “superpredatory merit” (e.g. Alexander, Genghis & Napoleon) has always stuck with me. (Obligatory plug for @bretdevereaux.bsky.social’s blog!)
