The worm's pharyngeal nervous system is homologous to the enteric nervous system. Many pharyngeal neurons show sensory features, & two sense bacterial cues to regulate feeding (PMIDs 25640076, 30580965). The worm genome encodes 7 variant IRs; all expressed only/highly in pharyngeal neurons. 2/n
