When I was a kid, I was convinced Tolkien had been to Middle Earth, and was couching his visitations in fiction. My belief in this was absolute. There was no way, in my mind, that someone could simply just write this stuff from their own imagination. I'm still not 100% convinced I was wrong. 😀
