Humanity’s best voice, music, can never in our lifetimes be exhausted. Have I heard Schumann’s first piano sonata before? Yes. Often. And no. Never. Somehow I’ve failed to relish it. So now it comes at me as revelation, with galaxies of turbulent pain, sudden random caprices, sweet agonies of doubt.
