This is a sharp and perceptive piece. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose: I was a teen in the 80s, when the Internet was not a meaningful thing, and we were just as confused, as stupid, as prone to lifting our whole personas from album covers and movies while claiming we were freethinkers.
