Bosses to rival the best of the best from Fromsoft with a parry-focused, tight battle system to pair it with, light metroidvania levels, best story I've seen from a metriodvania, good platforming, intriguing setting, sick aesthetic, and a KITTY MEOW protagonist (not technically, but basically)...the only thing I can fault the game for is that exploration isn't quite the focus of this game than, say, Metroid or Hollow Knight, but its strengths more than make up for that. After all, I'm a Story Enjoyer guy. The Taoist philosophy/religion that permeates this game is so palpable that it gives the story, setting, themes, and characters a novel vibe to me as well, as I'm not familiar with Taoism and haven't experienced much media that actually deals with Taoist ideas and philosophy. The most I've encountered is like, a child's depth of understanding of yin/yang and the funny symbols on Kyubimon.\nI especially like how they handled and built up to the ending choices. Cultivating a bond with Shaunshaun and watching him grow in wisdom without encountering any dire hardship, simply by being curious, experimental, and talking to others from a world outside his own, is a powerful arc that parallel's Yi's backstory, but Shaunshaun grows empathy in his heart where Yi didn't have much, which lets the Yi of today develop his own empathy, to see that he must allow new life to flourish where the life of his world persists parasitically, denying new possibilities. Very fromsoft-y, but with actual characters, their arcs, and dialogue! Sure, fromsoft has those on paper, but eeeh, I'm not getting heartfelt discussion on life and meaning from onion knights or Miquella followers. \nI 100% recommend this game if you're in the mood for a game with a sick aesthetic and challenging and tight boss battles. While the game does have a Metroidvania world structure, exploration isn't a pillar of the game - but it'll scratch the itch some for sure. ",
