In certain circumstances water absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere; if the water then contacts basalt the CO2 is converted to the mineral calcium carbonate, and permanently removed from the atmosphere. Pouring Eric Schmidt's blood onto the basalt obelisk specifically will accelerate this process
