Restorative practices (RP) – focused on reparation and shared ownership of disciplinary justice – are designed to address undesirable behavior without imparting harm. We study Chicago Public Schools’ adoption of RP and identify decreased suspensions and arrests, driven by effects for Black students. We find null effects on test-score value added, ruling out average declines larger than 0.025SD. We estimate a 15% decrease in out-of-school arrests, consistent with RP substantively changing student behavior.", "image": { "$type": "blob", "ref": { "$link": "bafkreiebzbkytbdn7ks6kd5ht5f4g3vj375gbnz2bznu26vy45cs6754xy" }, "mimeType": "image/jpeg", "size": 288385 }, "aspectRatio": { "width": 1083, "height": 765 } } ] }, "record": { "$type": "app.bsky.embed.record", "record": { "cid": "bafyreia2uguszn62lxmgk54bk3offt6pyee54qhpasp4uqbbq77hu4drvq", "uri": "at://did:plc:wo2yfwofbz7bp57rtica32nq/app.bsky.feed.post/3ldj3husgmk2o" } } }, "langs": [ "en" ], "facets": [ { "$type": "app.bsky.richtext.facet", "index": { "byteEnd": 33, "byteStart": 8 }, "features": [ { "did": "did:plc:wo2yfwofbz7bp57rtica32nq", "$type": "app.bsky.richtext.facet#mention" } ] }, { "$type": "app.bsky.richtext.facet", "index": { "byteEnd": 78, "byteStart": 51 }, "features": [ { "did": "did:plc:2dwmxirmafcqfywrtbjsgbfd", "$type": "app.bsky.richtext.facet#mention" } ] }, { "index": { "byteEnd": 300, "byteStart": 268 }, "features": [ { "uri": "https://bfi.uchicago.edu/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/BFI_WP_2023-117-1.pdf", "$type": "app.bsky.richtext.facet#link" } ] } ], "createdAt": "2024-12-18T03:55:04.410Z" } }
