I feel like there should be more emphasis on “liberal” and less emphasis on “democracy.” Appeals to democracy and majority opinion fall apart when the majority wants bad things. It shouldn’t matter that trans people are (ostensibly) politically unpopular. There are some things majorities can’t do.
