Today in 1958, the United States conducted its third underwater nuclear test—WAHOO (9 kilotons)—8,000 feet outside of Enewetak Atoll lagoon off Bogan Island. A “Betty” nuclear depth bomb was detonated 490 feet underwater (in water 3,200 feet deep) near an array of ships, barges, and submarines.
