            "alt": "Beyond the European Health Divide: Functional Limitation Disparities among older adults in Central and Eastern Europe:\n\nPost-socialist countries in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) have generally poorer health than the rest of Europe. Regional and historical differences can shape disability outcomes later in life, although such manifestations within CEE are understudied. We used 2019-2020 data (n=14,472) from the Survey of Health, Ageing, and Retirement in Europe to analyze limitations with ADLs, IADLs, near vision, hearing, and episodic memory among those ages 60+ in the Baltic States, Visegrád, Former Yugoslavia, and the Black Sea while accounting for various factors. Age-adjusted country rates were highest in Poland and Romania. Compared to the Baltic States, ADL, IADL, and episodic memory limitations were generally greater in Visegrád, Former Yugoslavia, and the Black Sea, while near vision and hearing limitations were mostly lower in these regions. Health factors were important in explaining these regional differences. Divergent disability outcomes throughout CEE highlight the heterogenous needs of those aging in post-socialist Europe.",
