It’s a long-fought victory for NC GOP legislators, who've tried to shift election appointment power away from Democratic governors since 2016. Even though Gov. Josh Stein quickly issued an appeal to the N.C. Supreme Court, it's unlikely to succeed with Republicans holding a 5-2 majority.
