No doubt, but we should recognize that Biden was looking at a field that had remained clear for him for months while he delayed his campaign announcement (and stayed clear thru ‘23). Pulling the plug in ‘24 to *prompt* an open primary would’ve been more extraordinary than LBJ’s decision in ‘68.
