I'm also fine with the students who wrote something like 6 cells / 8 mL = X cells / 100 mL; 6*100 = 8x; x=75. That's showing cross multiplication, which is a valid method of solving fractions. But you can't just multiply one side of an equation by 100 and not touch the other side.
