I often consider The Lottery as a huge turn in my taste as a teenager, as well as Annihilation as an adult, but Who Will Greet You at Home by Lesley Nneka Arimah was also such an eye-opener for what short stories could be. If you haven't read, I highly recommend: www.newyorker.com/magazine/201...
