Over 500 years later someone else in search of a view visited Sunningwell. Around c.1789 at the tender age of 14 JMW Turner stayed with his aunt & uncle in a house by the village pond (Sunna’s Well). Drawings of the church can be found in an early sketchbook in Tate’s collection.
