agree 100% with the k-8 model. I also think developmentally having K-6 and then a 7-8 "jr high" in a different area of the school is best within that. I would also one up it with mixed grade classes (the model of classrooms that span grades like K-2, 3-4, 5-6) Kids learn so much from each other.
