The average error for a 72-hour hurricane forecast in the 1960s was 400 miles. Today, it’s less than 80 miles. When this comic came out, a US computer forecast model had only been around for 6 years. Reliable 3 and 5 days forecasts wouldn’t exist for another 35 years.
