One of my favorite directors for his unerring command of the fundamentals of story and craft. And despite his horror reputation, he could deploy those skills just as well in sci-fi goofiness (“Space Truckers”), gutter noir (“Edmond,” “Stuck”), and magic realism (“The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit”).
