Steam‘s marketing is immensely powerful if used right. Some titles I‘ve been involved with would not have gotten anywhere without it. A lot of indies don‘t get marketing right (some games are just hard to market appealingly), but that‘s not Steam‘s fault. (For the record: I agree 30% is too much)
