Today in 1953 at the Nevada Proving Ground, the joint Los Alamos-DOD effects test ENCORE took place. A B-50 bomber dropped a Mark-6D atomic bomb from 19,000 feet. It detonated at 2,423 feet with a yield of 27 kilotons (predicted yield was 30-35 kilotons). Below, watch the blast wave hit spectators.
