I get whatchu mean, but I do think Prime is more comparable to franchises that have had a jump to 3D. Like Mario or Zelda, nobody's rlly saying that 3d mario or 3d zelda are spinoffs. I get it though I can see your reasoning in that the stories of the prime games have little impact in 2d metroid.
