This might be an issue with Neovim. Here is the minimal 'init.vim": syntax on autocmd FileType lua let g:hello=1 Opening with `nvim --clean -u init.vim -- test.lua` indeed doesn't execute this autocommand. But it works in Vim and for other filetypes. I'll create an issue.
