The genus name Crotophaga means "tick-eating" because they will hop among cattle eating ticks & other small insects from the ground. They're not graceful fliers, preferring to make short hops from shrub to shrub. Muscular legs help with launch to flight. (📷: Charles J. Sharp, Wikimedia)
