if you care, here's my 2 cents of rant about the situation of art and the massacre of our culture (no thread, just screencap, sorry) this is not a call for discourse - this is how I feel. I don't want to lock the thread, but know that I will be ignoring arguments on the matter.

A tragedy of the highest proportion. Humanity has an uncanny talent for orchestrating its largest, most scarring tragedies. We started with genocide, moved on to ecocide and now moved on to massacring culture itself (“cultucide”?). What you need to understand, is that coming generations won't have the same opportunities and context to experience Miyazaki’s work and legacy as we do today. All they'll have is what we leave them. For them Ghibli will no longer be the work of a visionary storyteller - it'll be a vibe, littered with meaningless farce images engineered to evoke relatability and nothing else… The future’s archeology won't be about digging up bones and ancient pottery. It'll be about people trying to parse out what the culture, the heritage of their ancestors really was. IF we are lucky enough that there'll be people who would even want to do that. If not, we'll simply be forgotten as how we are, as how we existed. You, me, everyone - there won't be distinction. We'll all be discarded, dismissed in favour of likeness, of fake things that evoke the vague idea of what we were. I wish I could say: “I believe in us stopping this”. But I don’t.\nWe're up against the lobby of the planet’s most wealthy industry that'll go bankrupt if the tech they are touting fails. The generation of artists after mine are young folks willingly branding their own work as “memeslop” because memeslop is engagement. And as such, the future I deem certain is one in which AI makes it. A future in which archaeology will not be about digging up bones. Though what I see in the future is -and should be!- irrelevant. What *anyone* sees in the future should be irrelevant. “you never know what the next step is gonna be - because if you DID know, you wouldn’t take it. Because it would already be past.” All we, artists can do, is keep creating. Not because of AI, not in spite of AI.
