But also (and more so, in a way), it's about finding a balance, something I've always had issues with.\n\nI touch upon it in the post/podcast episode, but I'll eventually figure out a way to write/talk more about it.\n\nI say:\n\n\"There’s a balance we try to strike as photographers between living in the moment and photographing that moment. It’s impossible to do both, though we often tell ourselves otherwise.\"\n\nWe lie to ourselves, saying that while we are experiencing the through the lens, it’s still happening in real life and we are still fully present. We want so badly for this to be true, even when we’re not hiding behind the camera. Experiencing the moment without the filter of a lens grows terrifying the more time we spend behind it.\"\n\n", "image": { "$type": "blob", "ref": { "$link": "bafkreifptw7zyzek5jfp3yzpv4fcos6xsvu57wl5tahxc5ywda6h4g5x2e" }, "mimeType": "image/jpeg", "size": 412983 }, "aspectRatio": { "width": 1080, "height": 1565 } }, { "alt": "I think in a lot of ways I've come to terms with this (for example, I don't carry a camera around with me wherever I go). But in other ways, I have not (for example, I find zero reason to travel for non-photographic pursuits). \n\nBut there's oodles of other balances in life and photography to deal with and (not conquer, but) balance properly. Social media, buying things, down time, self promotion, sleep, travel and endless other stuff are all things that I have struggled with that have almost nothing to do with photography.\n\nBut also, they have everything to do with photography since I'm a photographer. All of those things (and so much more) affect and are affected by photography. \n\nAnyway, I do actually think I struck a nice balance in the forthcoming piece. It's a balance between talking about gear, hiking, photography, history, and writing. So if you get a chance, could you maybe think about listening/reading (but mostly listening)? \n\nI'm really bad at self-promotion. \n\nLook, just listen to it, okay? It'll be out tomorrowish. You'll see. \n\n", "image": { "$type": "blob", "ref": { "$link": "bafkreifv74jggx5yr4qhgqee3pbbxjy6a7vpzn6thhdfwlwclbvwc2ehk4" }, "mimeType": "image/jpeg", "size": 536894 }, "aspectRatio": { "width": 1080, "height": 1887 } } ] }, "langs": [ "en" ], "reply": { "root": { "cid": "bafyreih3uklqoq6a44sflhqv6mgnnmcbr4q5ss3jv2ue4ojpdww5tey72m", "uri": "at://did:plc:znppit4suveo4kestimkpdds/app.bsky.feed.post/3lnuwtc3kd22e" }, "parent": { "cid": "bafyreih3uklqoq6a44sflhqv6mgnnmcbr4q5ss3jv2ue4ojpdww5tey72m", "uri": "at://did:plc:znppit4suveo4kestimkpdds/app.bsky.feed.post/3lnuwtc3kd22e" } }, "createdAt": "2025-04-28T14:07:51.566Z" } }
